Description

Up for sale is a 1:72 scale 1/72 US Navy Grumman EA-6B Prowler 161883 VAQ-209 (JCW-72-EA6B-004 ) by JC Wings.

The EA-6B Prowler is an American four-seat twin-engine, long-range, all-weather, carrier-capable, electronic warfare aircraft. It is capable of command-and-control airstrike missions and electronic signals intelligence gathering. It first flew on May 25, 1968, entering operational service with VAQ-132 in July 1971. They were withdrawn from the US Navy service in June 2015 and the USMC in 2019, replaced by the EA-18G Growler. Production ended in 1991, with 170 airframes built. Based on the A-6 Intruder, a lengthened forward fuselage allows a crew of four, a pilot and three Electronic Countermeasures Officers (ECMO). A thin gold film over the canopy protects the occupants from emissions produced by the avionics. The top of the vertical stabiliser has an antenna fairing. It uses two Pratt & Whitney J52 turbojet engines mounted in the fuselage. Armament excludes guns and five external hardpoints that can carry up to 8,200 kg (18,000 lb) of payload.

VAQ-209 “Star Warriors” is a United States Naval Reserve electronic attack squadron assigned to the Tactical Support Wing  (TSW). Established on October 1, 1977, the unit is authorised to use the name and Darth Vader’s likeness in their livery. They operated the EA-6B Prowler from 1989 until 2013 when they transitioned to the EA-18G Growler. They are currently based at Naval Air Station Whidbey Island, Washington. VAQ-209 has deployed several times, including Operations Northern Watch,  Allied Force, Southern Watch and Enduring Freedom

This model air-plane is made from die-cast metal and plastic and include extensive detailing. It is similar in quality to Century Wings, Calibre Wings and Forces of Valor.
