Description

Up for sale is a 1:72 scale 1/72 US Navy Grumman F-14B Tomcat AA101 VF-11 “Red Rippers” (JCW-72-F14-010) by JC Wings.

US Navy Fighter Squadron 43 was commissioned on September 1st, 1950 originally flying the original Corsair and called”Rebel’s Raiders”. They onto  the F9F Cougar and F-8 Crusader before being redesignated as VF-11 “Red Rippers” on February 16th, 1959. They deployed to Vietnam in 1967 flying the F-4 Phantom II and eventually upgraded to the Tomcat in 1980. They flew the Tomcat for 25 years before it was redesignated as Strike Fighter Squadron 11 (VFA-11) and switched to the F/A-18 Super Hornet in 2005.

During the final Tomcat deployment aboard the USS George Washington in 2005, the CAG and CO aircraft wore high visibility schemes and since the retirement of the Tomcat also meant the retirement of the Phoenix Missile, the artwork depicted a Tomcat perched atop an AIM-54 with the title “Thanks for the Ride! 1980-2005”.

This model air-plane is made from die-cast metal and plastic and include extensive detailing. It is similar in quality to Century Wings, Calibre Wings and Forces of Valor.
