Description

Up for sale is a brand new 1:72 scale Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF) McDonnell Douglas F/A-18A Hornet by Hobby Master.

On October 28, 2016, the Centenary celebrations for RAAF 1st, 2nd 3rd and 4th Squadrons were held by the RAAF at base Williamtown, NSW. One of the special paint schemes for this historic event was completed for the 3rd Squadron aircraft F/A-18A Hornet A21-27. The paint scheme commemorates the 3rd Squadron’s 2nd highest scoring ACE Wing Commander R. Bobby Gibbes’s P-40E Kittyhawk in a desert camouflage scheme. Wing Commander R. Bobby Gibbes was twice the 3rd Squadron CO and had 10 victories, DSO, DFC and Bar. Unfortunately, the RAAF was not happy with the paint colours, so the scheme was scrapped without any public displays. It was supposed to look like a P-40, however the paint shop made it look too orange, therefore the RAAF sent it back to get painted grey again. What a shame.

This model aircraft is made from die-cast metal and include extensive detailing. It is similar in quality to Corgi, Gemini Jets, JC Wings, Witty Wings, Century Wings, NG Models and Aviation72.

Includes display stand.
